Tuesday yumminess!

I officially have a new favorite word (and most likely a new addiction): baleada(s).

This is a traditional Honduran dish you can easily have for your breakfast, your lunch AND (normal people would use OR…) your dinner. I might have overdone it the past few days but I simply couldn’t help it. This wheat tortilla, our Honduran host family used corn, much lighter and somehow more digest, folded in half and filled with mashed fried beans, is (too) cheap and (too) delicious! Baaaaaah, just thinking of it made me want to brave the darkness of the night and go to the closest baleadaria. Yes, I might need a rehab once we passed the Salvadorian border! I’m definitely dreading the moment to say bye to my baleadas! But hey, who could blame me?! For less than two dollars for this wonderful meal, you would also leave the street stall, full, happy and slightly addicted.

I have found a recipe online that could make my Honduran host mom smile with satisfaction so I am happy to share it with you. While I cannot make my own baleadas, I’ll keep enjoying the street ones until we have to leave for El Salavdor! Have fun!

Happy trails and remember: Carpe Diem!

  1. […] helpful, landscapes were incredibly beautiful and food was incredibly addictive (see my shameless post on baleadas). I won’t deny that some parts of the country still have issues with some idiots […]
